As non-Indigenous artists, we position this artwork on the stolen land of Turtle Island. We acknowledge that we benefit from the colonial structures that continue to operate on this land.
Killjoy’s Kastle was produced in Toronto, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The primary artists, Allyson Mitchell and Deirdre Logue, are white settlers who recognize that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships with the land upon which this art has been located, and they acknowledge the artwork’s presence on the unceded territory of several Indigenous Nations.
The area known as Los Angeles and the Channel Islands is traditionally cared for by the Tongva peoples. The area known as Philadelphia is the ancestral homeland of the Lenni-Lenape People of Lenapehoking and the Poutaxat peoples. We are grateful for our time as guests on this land and recognize (as well as join) the ongoing struggles against colonial violence and legacies.
